How Coach Shelly Lee Is Helping Women Finally Write the Book God Gave Them
Living Local Series
This Small-Town Trailblazer Is Helping Faith-Filled Women Write Books and Walk in Obedience, One Chapter at a Time.

Meet Coach Shelly Lee, the voice behind Pen. Paper. Publish.
PURPOSE OVER PERFECTION
KUWTC: You didn’t start out wanting to be an author or coach—so how did this all begin?
Coach Shelly: “Honestly? Obedience. I didn’t wake up one day wanting to be an author or coach—I just couldn’t keep ignoring what God was telling me to do. He gave me stories, hard lessons, and breakthroughs that weren’t just for me. I started writing and speaking because I knew someone needed what I survived.”
Callout Quote: “It wasn’t about building a brand—it was about building bold believers with a message.”
A MISSION ROOTED IN TESTIMONY
KUWTC: How does your personal story show up in your work?
Coach Shelly: “My personal story is the work. I know what it feels like to question your worth, sit in silence, and convince yourself ‘now’s not the time.’ I’ve been through heartbreak, disappointments, delays—and still had to show up with a word in my spirit. That’s why I don’t coach theory. I use my own journey: the good, the ugly, and the God moments.”
HOME AS A HAVEN
KUWTC: What does “home” mean to you?
Coach Shelly: “To me, ‘home’ isn’t just a place—it’s peace. It’s where I can breathe, pray out loud, and be fully me without apology. It’s the one space where my faith, my flaws, and my future all get to coexist.”
THE WRITER’S DREAM SPACE
KUWTC: If you could design your perfect writing nook or home office, what would it look like?
Coach Shelly: “It would absolutely need a quiet prayer nook, a cozy writing corner, and walls that preach with Scripture and affirmations. Soft lighting, worship music, a big whiteboard, and a comfy chair with a blanket for Holy Spirit downloads and tea-fueled writing sprints.”
THE THREE SPACES OF INSPIRATION
KUWTC: Where do you feel most creative—at home, at work, or on the go?
Coach Shelly:
“At home, I feel the safest. In my workspace, I feel the most focused. On the go, I get the unexpected downloads… God will drop a whole message in my spirit like, ‘That’s your next blog post.’”
“Each place has its own anointing but home is where it all begins.”
MAKING SPACE SACRED
KUWTC: How has your lifestyle shaped the space you create and live in?
Coach Shelly: “My lifestyle as a single woman building a purpose-driven business has taught me to make any space sacred. You don’t need a mansion to walk in your calling. You just need focus, faith, and a door that closes.”
A SHIFTED PERSPECTIVE
KUWTC: Have you ever had a moment where a space completely changed your view?
Coach Shelly:
“Yes, and I’ll never forget it. I lived in a place that looked fine on the outside but spiritually and emotionally, it drained me… That space taught me atmosphere matters. I stopped waiting for peace to find me and started creating it.”
“Now I check the spirit of a place before I check the square footage.”
FINDING A SPACE THAT FITS YOUR FAITH
KUWTC: What’s your advice to someone looking for a space that supports their purpose?
Coach Shelly:
“Don’t just look for a space that looks good—look for one that feels aligned with what God called you to do. You don’t need fancy; you need favor. Ask: Can I pray here? Can I create here? Can I breathe here?”
Callout Quote: “Purpose needs room, not perfection.”
WHEN GOD IS YOUR BLUEPRINT
KUWTC: How do faith, family, or legacy influence your decisions about where and how you live?
Coach Shelly: “Faith is the foundation—period. I’m not just building for myself. I’m building for the ones coming behind me… And truthfully, I’m not content with where I live right now. But I know this isn’t my final stop—it’s just a temporary assignment.”
BALANCE BUILT ON BOUNDARIES
KUWTC: How do you balance business, ministry, and your personal life—especially under one roof?
Coach Shelly:
“Balance for me starts with boundaries and prayer… I live where I work and work where I live, so separation is non-negotiable. I carve out time to just be Shelly—not Coach Shelly.”
WHAT LEGACY LOOKS LIKE
KUWTC: What do you want your legacy to say?
Coach Shelly:
“I want my legacy to say: She obeyed God, even when it was hard… I want people to remember that I didn’t wait for perfect conditions to walk in purpose. I showed up flawed, faith-filled, and fully surrendered.”
Callout Quote: “I didn’t just write books—I helped others find the courage to write theirs.”
ROOTED IN BON WIER
KUWTC: Favorite small town?
Coach Shelly: “Bon Wier, Texas. It laid the foundation for the woman I am today… Church, work, cooking, discipline—it was all there. That town built me.”
DINNER WITH LEGACY
KUWTC: If you could host a dinner party anywhere, where would it be and who’s invited?
Coach Shelly:
“My grandmother’s house in Bon Wier. It wasn’t fancy, but it was full of love and lessons. My mom would be there. So would Ashlee Marie, Tamela Mann, and Fantasia. Real stories. Real women. Real God moments. That’s the kind of table I live to set.”
